Food stamps and other welfare programs are wonderful- as a helping hand for when we fall on hard times- but when I see people who don’t work and receive more money from the government than I make all month, and it is all put to ill use while their kids go hungry and bills go unpaid, well, that just really grinds my gears. These programs aren’t intended to be a way of life, they are supposed to be TEMPORARY assistance for those truly in need. I know so many people who are milking the system for all it’s worth and it makes me ashamed to be part of a society that accepts such disgusting behavior. Nowadays diagnoses like bipolar and ADHD warrant a disability check. Based on my experience, ADHD in particular is a label that seems to be thrown around much too freely by doctors and school districts. I personally know a man who was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, yet he gets up and goes to work every single day, whether he’s scheduled 40, 50, or even 60 hours a week. Isn’t it setting your children up for a much better life to teach them good work ethic, no matter the challenges they may face, than to teach them how to barely scrape by by surrendering to their supposed weaknesses? I know another man whose body is full of metal and experiences excruciating pain every day. Doctors said he would never walk again after a terrible accident, but he has worked long, hard jobs for many years, because he has a family to support. Some people truly need the help, and some people really are disabled, but if you can work under the table to fill in the blanks that your disability, food stamps, etc. can’t cover, then you can get a real job and stop living off of Uncle Scam. Why should the rest of us have to work to give the government money to support you while you lay in bed playing on your computer all day, talking on your $700 phone?
